This is extremely important research--Rankin's work on campus climate will be used by administrators, LGBTQ centers, scholars, and students to determine the needs of the LGBTQ community at the university.
Campus climate information helps persuade administrators that LGBTQ people need more support from their universities: this means resource centers, new academic units, benefits for LGBTQ partners, safer housing policies, and so on.
